Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, Peter K. Smith is one of the most prolific and influential researchers on children's play, rough-and-tumble play, and school bullying. His textbook Children and Play (Wiley-Blackwell, 2010) is the most comprehensive developmental account of children's play across the lifespan, and his co-edited Oxford Handbook of the Development of Play with Anthony Pellegrini is the definitive scholarly reference in the field. His 1993 paper with Pellegrini on school recess is one of the most cited in educational psychology. He chaired the International Society for Research on Aggression and has advised governments on play and bullying policy.
