Scott G. Eberle, PhD

Intellectual historian Scott Eberle tackled one of play science's most persistent challenges — defining what play actually is — with his 2014 paper proposing a six-element model of play grounded in the biology of fun. Formerly Vice President for Play Studies at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, he developed scores of exhibits, helped establish the American Journal of Play (which he edited for several years), and co-edits The Handbook of the Study of Play. He serves on the New York State Council on the Arts and has helped establish that a rigorous neuroscience of play is both possible and necessary.
